Another eventful hospital visit for my time bomb of a husband. He suffered a full blown stoke on the left side of his brain at 17 for causes completely unknown to the best Dr's at Barrows back then. He had to re-learn how to talk again and all the perks a stroke leaves you with. It was a difficult time for him, summer before senior year and not being able to go back. Thankfully he had many supporting him but it was just not the same. He was not the same (as expected). But we endure what we are handed I guess. He was athletic, played football and avid about what he took into his body. They were stumped, no one could figure out what the cause was. UNTIL that is 13 years later when he had a "mini" stroke (TIA) and the clot was on the way to his brain again and pushed on his optic nerve causing double vision until it dissipated. He had to wear his pirate patch until the sight worked its way out which lasted a few months. The good thing that came from it was medicine has advanced and during a procedure they did not have back then they discovered something. Jamie got to swallow a small tube and they place a camera in his heart. They found a defect in his heart that causes potential clots. He has some extra flap of a sort behind a valve. This was likely the reason for the first stroke. Amazing it took 13 years to diagnose it. Dr. Zambransk,i the head of neurology, can finally sleep well knowing there was a reason, he just couldn't figure it out back then. We are glad Jamie is alive and well - and he wasn't taking his cumadin as prescribed when I got pregnant. Come to find out it causes birth defects.
